CALIFORNIA’S 4TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

Conservative in its voting, Northern California’s 4th Con- gressional District extends from the Oregon border south along the Sierra Nevada mountain range, taking in Modoc, Lassen, Plumas, Sierra, Nevada, Placer and El Dorado Counties, and stretching west to include Butte County and a small portion of Sacramento County. Nearly half of the district’s voters live in Placer County, and about a quarter live in El Dorado County. As a result, the Sacramento media market reaches about 75% of the district. Liberal Democrat Charlie Brown mounted a serious challenge to retiring Congressman John Doolittle in 2006, riding a national trend that brought him within three percentage points of winning. Brown, a Code Pink supporter and member of the ACLU, is running again this year, backed by a well-funded and energized Democratic Party.

A WINNING REPUBLICAN

A tough campaigner with a penchant for winning, Doug Ose is the strongest candidate against Charlie Brown, and the best suited to unite district Republicans for victory. He won his first term in Congress by taking back a district previously held by a Democrat, then easily winning reelection. Ose is a solid fiscal conservative with a spotless reputation for honesty and a proven record fighting taxes, wasteful spending and illegal immigration — the right choice for a troubled economy. Ose has strong support among the area’s conservative Republican leaders, including neighboring Congressmen Dan Lungren and Wally Herger, State Senator Dave Cox, Assemblymen Roger Niello and National Tax Limitation Committee president Lew Uhler. Ose also enjoys wide support among local elected officials — including sheriffs, district attorneys and every supervisor in Placer County.
